Town fire station could be sold Town fire station could be sold

EVESHAM Fire Station could be sold to Wychavon District Council and redeveloped in order to give the town centre retail economy a boost.

Wychavon’s Executive Committee will discuss the purchase of the Merstow Green fire station at a meeting on Tuesday evening. If successful the plans would see the station and the Old Brewery car park area of Evesham redeveloped.

A report released yesterday by Wychavon says the discussions, which are at an early stage, support the council’s aspirations to “strengthen and regenerate the town centre”.

A clearer proposal including costs and risks posed to the council will be outlined in a report expected in June or July.

If the fire station was sold it would most likely be moved to the council’s current Abbey Road depot site, which will soon become surplus, and would be of no additional cost to the fire authority.

The policy and resources committee of the Fire and Rescue Authority will be asked to authorise the sale of Evesham Fire Station to the council along with the reprovision of a new fire station at a meeting on Wednesday.

Surely someone at Wychavon(planning)wo
uld have seen the new fire house facility & had an inkling about the fire stn moving when planning permission was first sought. What a waste of council tax payers money if this proposal is granted. Are the inmates in charge of the asylum again?

Thought for the day.
Perhaps the ambulance stn will be combined with the fire stn if Abbey rd site is granted.
On reflection.
Probably build the new fire stn then 12 months later decide its a good idea to combine ambulance service.Inmates still in charge I see !!

In 2002 myself & Liz Eyre's (councillor) had a meeting with the Chief Fire Officer about Broadway Fire station, because no other Fire Fighter would want to spend time in it. The CFO guartanned a new new station within 2 years, portacabins were issued for those 2 years for office, toilets & showers. After 11 years no further forward with a new station for Broadway. When Hereford & Worcester Fire bridgade have been contacted retained fire fighters were referred to as part time.
