ASPARAGUS lovers can enjoy their favourite vegetable as part of a cream tea at a farm shop in the Vale.

Scones, jam and cakes all created with the help of the delicious local gras, are just some of the tempting treats that go into making up Wayside Farm Shop’s seasonal cream tea which is available now.

Proprietor Elspeth Robertson is a long-time supporter of the British Asparagus Festival and the farm shop features a host of locally-sourced produce which changes seasonally and visitors can also browse an eclectic range of British gifts.

Wayside Café has developed a great reputation amongst foodies for its homemade fare and offers a tempting menu whatever time of day you visit – from breakfast through to afternoon tea.

Commenting on her asparagus cream tea, Elspeth said: “I try to create something new and unexpected for the British Asparagus Festival each year. Asparagus jam was developed a couple of years ago followed by asparagus scones.”

She added: “I was then challenged to make asparagus cake and thought bringing everything together as an asparagus cream tea would make perfect sense for 2013. All I need is Gus the Asparagus Man to come and play the piano for the perfect Asparatea Dance.”
