THERE’S plenty of food for thought for people planning activities this bank holiday weekend.

Local food and drink will the order of the day for the third Great Malvern Food Festival on Saturday, when the town centre will be filled with tempting smells and flavours from 10am to 5pm.

Abbey Road, Belle Vue Island and the Courtyard host the foodie fest, with the Wot’s Cooking Demonstration Kitchen showcasing the talents of James Garth, the head chef at Colwall Park Hotel, veggie recipes from Our Lizzy and the taste of Egypt with Marina Ibrahim’s authentic family recipes.

There will also be an artisan food and drink market, as well as live music and street entertainment in the form of French and Latin music from accordion player Alan Pianosmith and Mr Doo’s walkabout juggling and stilt walking show.

Elsewhere, visitors to the National Trust’s late mediaeval merchant’s house, Greyfriars in Friar Street, Worcester, can step back in time on Saturday from 1pm until 5pm to experience a day in the life of a George’s Yard child by playing a number of free garden games from the 1930s and 40s.

And visitors to Croome Court, near Upton, can choose to follow the path of a trusty servant, or the lord of the manor, during an outdoor and indoor family trail, which runs from Saturday until Sunday, June 2.

A springtime family fun trail can be followed at Witley Court and Gardens, near Worcester, from Saturday until Sunday, June 2, with all manner of clues to be tracked down around the grounds of the English Heritage site between 10am and 6pm – solve the riddle and claim your chocolate prize.

Literature lovers can endulge themselves at the Tudor House in Worcester’s Friar Street, which is holding a Roald Dahl trail from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Wednesday, offering children the chance to draw their favourite character and take part in activities for £1.

And those of a musical persuasion can enjoy the sounds of the Celebration Reed and Brass Band in Worcester’s Cripplegate Park between 2.30pm and 4.30pm on Sunday.
