THOUSANDS turned out as the sun joined the aircraft in the sky at Throckmorton’s annual air show.

About 14,000 visitors flocked to the event, held at Throckmorton air field near Pershore yesterday, which raises money for Help For Heroes and other military charities.

Highlights included the aircraft displays, static trucks and army and emergency services vehicles, along with a classic car show, stalls and music from the Bretforton Silver Band.

Paula Mewell, aged 38, of Drakes Broughton, was at the show with her children Rowan, four, and two-year-old Kiera and her husband, Martin Fletcher.

“It’s the first time I’ve been here,” she said.

“We’ve been in the police car already and the trucks. It’s lovely. It’s nice having everything together.”

Mr Fletcher, 39, said: “The weather just makes it. It’s nice to have it on your doorstep. It’s excellent. I’m here for the planes mostly.”

Ben Argar, 40, from Warwick, was at the event with his sons William, five, and Christian, two.

The roads policing officer with the Warwickshire force said: “We’ve been here in previous years and the weather has always been so horrendous but the weather’s perfect today. It’s a great cause.”

Meanwhile, Sarah and Mark Howard, from Churchdown, near Cheltenham, were at the show for the first time with their two young children.

Mrs Howard said: “It’s brilliant to be supporting the charities. The children love it.”

Evesham resident Michael Turner, 72, came along with his wife Jennifer, 64.
He remembered the airfield more than 40 years ago, when he used to fly as part of the Royal Observer Corps.

“I was quite interested in coming down here after being here years ago,” he said.

This is the fourth year the show has been held at Throckmorton Airfield and organisers are hoping to raise £20,000 for good causes.

Ian Bawdry, Worcestershire county co-ordinator for Help For Heroes, said this year’s turnout was the biggest yet.

“It’s absolutely fantastic,” he said. “In the four years the air show has been here this is the biggest crowd I’ve seen.

“Angus Nairn and Samantha Jones who organise it and all the many charities here have done a fantastic job in bringing the event together in support of our region.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the weather, it just brings people out.”
