Farmers hold show
9:00am Thursday 20th June 2013 in News
MORE than 300 young farmers from across Worcestershire gathered in Hanley Castle for an annual show.
Members of the county’s nine Young Farmers clubs took part in more than 50 competitions at Merevale Farm, which included bathtub racing, wool sack racing and tractor handling.
And taking the honours this year was Inkberrow Young Farmers, which won several major competitions, including the main exhibit, intermediate photography and men’s tug-of-war.
County chairman Helen Harcombe said: “The members put 100 per cent into the show and it was great to see well-over two thirds of the competitions full.
“We were extremely lucky with the weather and the support from the public was fantastic, which created a great atmosphere.
“This year we also hosted our first junior tug-of-war competition, where four teams of members aged 10 to 16 pulled against teams of eight.
“It was Upton Young Farmers junior team who took the title.”
