THIS weekend saw the first ever presentation of the Alan Jacobs Award by Worcestershire Young Archaeologists Club.
The award was given out in memory of Alan Jacobs, a former Worcestershire archaeologist who died last year, and was always keen to get young people enthusiastic about archaeology.
11-year-old Ray Haagensen took first prize for a 10-minute film and poster about Pumphouse Spring near his home, while 16-year-old Lucy Vivien took second place for a project report on the history of Upton Warren School.
The theme for this year’s awards, was 'My Place in Time', and more than 70 people came along to see the awards being presented.
Ray received £50 prize money, and a replica Roman hunting cup as a trophy.
Deborah Overton, co-leader, said: "It was a very moving day with Alan's family being here to help judge and to hand over the award. We were all blown away by the high standard, and the winning entry from Ray was outstanding."
