Supermarkets square up for cup
11:00am Saturday 17th August 2013 in News
THE 16th annual football match between teams from two of Evesham’s supermarkets is taking place on Sunday.
The Tesco vs Morrisons Retail Challenge Cup is played in support of St Richard’s Hospice, Worcester. It was set up by Mark Payne, who works for Tesco in Worcester Road, Evesham, a year after his mum died of breast cancer.
Mr Payne said: “The first year I started it was 1998, a year after my mum died. She was cared for by St Richard’s Hospice before she died.
“We are hoping to raise more than last year when we donated just over £1,000 to the hospice and their work.”
The match, at Evesham United Football Ground, kicks off at 6pm.
Entry for adults costs £2 and it will be £1 for children and OAPs.
