New homes bonus cash helps community groups

THOUSANDS of pounds have been handed out to Evesham community groups.
Representatives from 23 organisations received cheques for up to £5,000 at the town hall on August 21.
The money, which totalled nearly £55,000, is part of the New Homes Bonus, a scheme which sees councils receive a cash sum as a result of housing growth in the area which is then passed on to the community.
Deputy mayor Charlie Homer said: “I think we can see from reading out the names the difference in the groups we have in Evesham.
We should be really proud of the diversity.”
Ourside Youth Association received £4,838 and director Carly Elwell said: “It means so much. We want publicity to get the membership up and provide internet for the members.
“We are planning to use it for a design project to create a new sign for the centre, new equipment and to help support people through their food hygiene certificate.”
Evesham Hospital Radio representative Pete Challenger said the money had come at just the right time to get new equipment and Robert Hale from the Evesham Vale Running Club said they wanted to create a new route.
A larger sum of almost £275,000 of New Homes Bonus money has also been set aside to support the Bell Tower Appeal, Almonry Museum and charity Wallace House.
