Teens are praised for family festival
A SUMMER family festival in Evesham organised by a group of Vale teenagers raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
The youngsters, aged 15 to 17, raised £553.60 during Yes Fest, held at Sankey Marine on the late August Bank Holiday Sunday.
The group – who were all involved in the Engage4Life project, which is backed by the National Citizens Service and is a Big Society youth development initiative – organised the day and were delighted with the money raised.
Jade Mannion, team leader, said: “The day was a big success overall. There was a steady amount of people there throughout the day.
Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and had fun.
“All of the young people who had organised the day demonstrated an excellent attitude and worked as a team.
“They were commended by the owner of the venue who was impressed with how they conducted themselves throughout the day. It must be said that all of us are truly thankful for their hospitality and allowing us to use their beautiful venue.
“I am extremely proud of the group’s attitude throughout the engage4life programme and they have developed a range of skills throughout the summer.”
The group also thanked Tesco, where they did a fund-raising bag packing day and collected an extra £307.08. All the money will be donated to Macmillan cancer support and Help for Heroes.
