Homes on greenfield land are refused
3:30pm Monday 9th September 2013 in News
CONTROVERSIAL plans that could have seen 50 homes built on greenfield land near Evesham have been thrown out by Wychavon District Council.
Offenham residents battling the proposals attended a planning meeting where members discussed the application by David Wilson Homes for the development between Leasowes Road and Laurels Road.
Dr David Kewley said he was concerned the village did not have the facilities to support the increase in housing.
“We do not oppose sensible development but this application is excessive. It will change the nature of the village,” he said.
Sian Griffiths, of David Wilson Homes, said the company was committed to engaging with residents and addressing their concerns during the planning process.
Ward member Coun Keith Wright said: “The harm of this application far outweighs the benefits. We should not punish local communities by riding roughshod over local opinion.”
