Cement mixer speeder banned
6:40pm Thursday 12th September 2013 in News
A MAN caught speeding in a cement mixer has been banned from driving.
Vincent Rhodes was caught doing 53 miles per hour in the HGV as it drove along the A46 at Evesham on February 6 this year.
The speed limit along that stretch of the road was 50mph but Worcester Magistrares’ Court was told Rhodes was only permitted to drive the mixer at 40mph.
The 38-year-old, from Mayfair Drive, Kingswinford, in the Black Country, admitted a charge of speeding at an earlier hearing.
He already had 12 points on his licence meaning this latest conviction saw him disqualified.
Gary Harper, defending, said Rhodes wanted to plead ‘exceptional hardship’ as his client was a sole trader who risked the potential loss of his livelihood.
“He accepts he took his eye off the ball in this instance,”
said Mr Harper.
District judge Nigel Cadbury disqualified Rhodes from driving for 35 days and fined him £300, but said he was giving the defendant his “last chance” by not banning him for longer. He was also ordered to pay £60 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
