Rush to get seats for movie preview
12:10pm Friday 20th September 2013 in News
A SNEAK preview of new Formula 1 movie Rush featuring Vale racing driver Rob Austin has raised nearly £20,000 for charity.
WIX Racing team driver Rob welcomed about 300 fans and guests to the Regal cinema in his hometown of Evesham for the exclusive screening earlier this month.
The event stopped traffic in Port Street as the original 1976 Surtees F1 car used in the film parked in front of the cinema for guests to admire.
But the real star turn of the evening was guest, former F1 driver Brett Lunger, who is played by Rob in the film, who in a twist of fate was on holiday just 20 miles from Evesham visiting his sister, and decided to attend.
“All I can say is what a night,” said Rob. “So many thanks to so many people, particularly to WIX, the Regal and Studio Canal for giving us a sneak copy of the film. And of course to all our great fans who came along – some from the other end of the UK. It’s impossible to mention everyone but they know who they are. I don’t think I’ve ever drunk so much champagne in my life.”
Ticket sales plus £8,000 raised through an auction on the night and a raffle meant some £18,903 will be split between three worthy causes, Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, HomeHelps UK and the Vale of Evesham School.
The film, which relives the story of rival Formula 1 legends James Hunt and Niki Lauda, will now be screened at the Regal from Friday, September 27, until Thursday, October 10.
