How will I get to work when bus service ends?
A BROADWAY mum says she may have to move or give up her job if a bus service which is set to stop running at the end of the month, is not replaced.
Nicola McLean, who lives with her seven-year-old daughter in Wells Gardens, travels to and from Evesham every day on the 559 bus for her job at Home Bargains.
But on Thursday, October 31, the commercial service operated by Castleways Coaches of Winchcombe, will end as the firm said it was no longer financially viable, despite the first service of the day being subsidised by Worcestershire County Council.
As yet no other operator has come forward to take over the route.
“There was a notice on the bus saying that as of October 31 the buses would be stopping,” said Miss McLean.
“I work Monday to Friday and the only way I get to work is by bus. Unless you drive, you are stuck in Broadway. My daughter goes to school in Broadway.
But during the school holidays I have to take her into Evesham for clubs while I am at work.
“When I first heard the bus was going to stop I had a look to see if I could get another bus or look to move into Evesham so I can carry on with my job because I want to keep it.”
Worcestershire County Council is investigating replacing it. A spokesman said: “The current operator of the 559 between Evesham, Broadway and Willersey notified of us their intention to withdraw the whole of service.
“We are investigating whether any other operator can provide an alternative service. However, at this time this has not been confirmed.”
A spokesman for Castleways Coaches confirmed it was ending the service.
