My close shave for cancer
5:00pm Friday 1st November 2013 in News
A VALE woman lost her long locks in aid of Cancer Research UK and the Little Princess Trust after being inspired by her young cousin, who is battling the disease.
Nadia Williams, aged 24, of Abbey Gardens, Evesham, has been growing her hair for four years but on Saturday (oct 26) it was cut off at the roots - with the rest shaved - so her tresses can be turned into a wig or hairpiece for a child suffering with cancer.
Kind-hearted Nadia also raised money through sponsorship and her total so far is £550.
She said: “I came up with the idea because I have a cousin, aged 14, who had just been diagnosed with blood cancer. He has gone through leukaemia as well and he was only 13 when he found out.
“Seeing him losing his hair I just felt so rotten. So I thought I am going to do it. I have the choice but people that have cancer don’t.”
Miss Williams, who is autistic, had her close shave at the Phab Club in Torquay, a charity which creates opportunities for children and adults of all abilities to enjoy life together, where she goes twice a year with her mum.
