Raising cash for Costa Rica trip
10:30am Friday 1st November 2013 in News
A STUDENT is hoping to rise to a fund-raising challenge with the reward being a trip to Costa Rica.
Georgia Wilcox, aged 15, of Rous Lench, near Evesham, needs to raise £4,000 by July 2015 to seal her place on the expedition with World Challenge, but without financial help from parents.
Co-ordinated by Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham, where Georgia is in year 11, there are 23 students hoping to book their ticket to Central America.
During the trip, the students will trek across summits, explore volcanoes and rainforests and work with native communities over four weeks.
Miss Wilcox said: “I’m really excited to be going. It will be my first time there and I can’t wait.
This is my first fund-raising challenge so that’s a new experience but hopefully I can do it.
“It will be a new experience to go there and something to look forward to after my GCSEs. It will hopefully look good on my CV after too.”
Georgia’s first fund-raising event is a table top sale on Saturday at Inkberrow Village Hall. She is also organising a silent auction and will be Santa’s elf in his grotto at Smartcut in Bishampton. Georgia, who is hoping to go on to university and have a career in the animal care sector, said: “Hopefully people will come down to the table top sale as it will be a fun day.”
Sharon Wilcox, Georgia’s mother, said: “I’m really proud of her.
She will be travelling so far.
“The fact the students have been told they can’t come to the bank of mum and dad is great. It encourages independence and makes them use their own initiative to raise the money.”
The table top sale takes place between 10am and 2pm. To book a table for the sale or for more information, contact worldchallenge2015@ gmail.com or Sharon Wilcox on 07973 522272.
