EVESHAM residents of all ages have been having their say about what they want the town to look like in the future.

The research has been organised by the people behind Evesham’s Town Plan, a project seeking to form a vision for the town using ideas from residents.

The plan will focus on young people, leisure, sport, tourism, the economy, local environment, transport, health and wellbeing, housing, community support and the town centre.

It will map out the future of Evesham, detailing targets over the next five, ten and 20 years.

Patrick Staines, chairman of the steering group of the Evesham Town Plan project, updated the town council on how the plan was progressing.

He said: “The working groups have been operating since June and some have made very good headway while some have been a bit slow.

“I am relaunching health and wellbeing. In general the working groups have worked very well and we are getting some very interesting emerging themes.”

The group has also consulted parish councils and schools around Evesham and the Vale, with some meetings still to take place.

As part of the consultation youngsters created artwork showing their vision, which is still being displayed in ImaGine in Market Place.

Evesham town councillor Jo Sandals, who worked with the pupils from Simon de Montfort, St Egwin’s and Blackminster Middle schools, said: “Through artwork we asked the children to give us an idea of their vision. They were really imaginative.

“They had a good vision of the high street with people sitting outside enjoying meals and good restaurants, an ice rink, a bigger skate park and one wanted a water feature.”

Dates for public meetings in December and the new year are due to be announced soon.
