A WALKING group helping people in the town keep a healthy body and mind is calling on willing volunteers to step up and lead the way.

Pershore Vale Walkers get together each week and walk in and around various routes including the town.

But they need more leaders to ensure they can keep trekking – something very important to many of their group.

One walker, Gloria McLellan, said the group was a great comfort to her after the death of her husband.

“I come along every week,” she said.

“I have recently lost my husband, this has been a good support for me. I have been coming since it started though, back in 2008.

“The social aspect as well as the healthy walking for me and my dog is great.”

Neil Sambrooks, also from Pershore, said: “I have a form of dementia.

“The walking is enjoyable and it also enables us to meet people, and see bits of Pershore that we didn’t know were there.”

But because the group is so popular, organiser Val Wood needs more walk leaders to step forward and offer their help.

She said: “What the group needs is more trained leaders.

“This involves attending a free course with like-minded people when worries and queries can be answered.

“Once someone has been trained then they are covered by insurance and can also take advantage of first aid training.”

Anyone who can help should call Val Wood on 01386 554235 or e-mail val@wood20.plus.com.

Anyone wanting to join the walk can go to Pershore Leisure Centre at 10.30am on Friday mornings where the walks begin.
