  • "I'm really pleased that there are more reported people than ever before coming to our beautiful City. However, why on earth has everything been moved to the high street in order for the major chains to benefit? Why not embrace the individuality of the small, independent retailers that makes Worcester what it is? Shame on you H&W Chamber of Commerce."

ORGANISERS of Worcester’s Victorian Christmas Fayre say footfall on its opening day was greater than ever before.

The 21st annual fayre is expected to have attracted 100,000 visitors to the city by the time it ends tomorrow.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, which runs the fayre, says it was overwhelmed by visitor numbers yesterday, the event’s first full day.

Mike Ashton, chief executive of the chamber, said: “The first day of the fayre has been a huge success, not only has it been the biggest in terms of the number of stalls but we also think there has been more footfall than ever before. We are expecting lots more people as the weather is predicted to be good.

“If you haven’t already been it is worth a visit to start your Christmas, enjoy the tasty treats or just walk around the city and take in the scents and sights of Victorian Worcester.”

More than 150 stalls are offering a raft of seasonal supplies of all varieties. Visitors can also experience the Victorian carousel, while listening to the barrel organ music.
