AN EVESHAM man has admitted failing to report a crash after he reversed into a car in the town’s Old Brewery car park in April.
Dan Smith of Hipton Hill, Lenchwick, appeared before Worcester magistrates and admitted failing to stop after the crash on April 9.
Fred Pilkington, prosecuting, told the court the driver of the other car reported that the 20-year-old had reversed into her car then driven off.
Chris Hilton, defending, said Smith had put his Ford Transit van into reverse after realising he had driven past the exit to the car park.
He said: “He was on his way to the cemetery to attend to his brother’s grave. It is always an emotional time for him when he does that.
“It took him by surprise because he didn’t see the vehicle. It was his impression at the time that it wasn’t his fault, which it clearly was.”
He added Smith frequently carries out tasks such as shopping for his mother and losing his licence would make this very difficult.
The court handed him five penalty points as well as a £100 fine and ordered him to pay £200 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
