A SERVICE of rededication was held at Bishampton’s newly-restored war memorial by Bishop of Worcester the Rt Rev John Inge and the Rev Clive Fairclough.
Relatives and friends of those who lost their lives or fought in conflicts, joined them for the ceremony in St James Church before proceeding to the memorial site at the village green, despite the rainy conditions.
The restoration of the memorial, which was erected in 1929 and 1930, was funded from sales of the book Bishampton Remembered which was produced by the Bishampton Historical Society, and written by the late Peter Averis. The stonework was redressed by the team of Worcester Cathedral stonemasons led by Darren Steele.
The finished memorial, at the heart of the village on the corner of Main Street and Broad Lane, is the result of a three-year project to get it cleaned, repaired and relandscaped.
