BINMEN in Wychavon will no longer just be picking up rubbish, they will also be delivering the district council’s residents’ magazine.

In a bid to cut costs, contractor FCC – which runs the council’s bin collection service – is delivering Wychavon, the council’s magazine, under their existing contract, saving the council £5,000 in distribution costs for the December issue.

Emma Wild, communications manager at Wychavon, said: “We’re always trying to save money on the residents’ magazine.

“We’ve reduced the amount we do a year, procured a cheaper printer and now take advertising from selected partner organisations.

“We’re keen to ensure that residents still get information about what we’re doing but that we keep costs down. We know a lot of residents value the magazine and find it a useful way to find out more about what we’re doing and what people in the community are doing with our help.

“However, with evershrinking budgets we’ve got to continue to bring the costs down, which we’re managing pretty well.”

The December issue includes an interview with X Factor star and local resident Giles Potter, who started out on the council’s W Factor.

Anyone who doesn’t receive a copy of the magazine by December 13 should ring 01386 565018 or e-mail client services@wychavon.gov.uk.

FCC is also distributing the calendar for bin collections and a reminder of the Christmas collection dates for this year.
