The Rotary Club of Evesham will be holding a tin and non-perishable items collection at Morrisons supermarket on Friday.

The team will be collecting between 2pm and 7pm and the donations will be handed over to the charity Caring Hands which will then distribute the items to food banks across Evesham and The Vale.

The aim of the event is for shoppers to buy extra tins and non-perishable items during their own shop and then donate them, so that people in need over the Christmas period can be given the items.

Rotary organiser Jeremy Knight said: “Our Evesham Rotary Club has been made aware of the huge growth in the number of individuals and families with children who now need the help of food banks, to provide much needed food and other non perishable goods. As a local Club we believe we can help those in need within our own community and this is why we have set up the collection.

“We do hope that very many of Morrisons shoppers will buy just some extra items that will help others have a better time over Christmas. I would like to thank Morrisons for their help and support and of course the amazing Charity Caring Hands who will make sure the collected items go to those in need.”

The Rotary Club will have leaflets on the day to guide shoppers in the ideal items to buy.
