A SPECIALIST hospital caring for children across the Midlands has been given a glowing report following a surprise inspection.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital was visited by four Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors in November, who found families were happy with the care their children were receiving, and all essential standards were being met.

The inspectors visited areas of the hospital including intensive care, cardiac and cancer wards and spoke to more than 30 parents.

One said: "My child’s condition was stabilised by the KIDS team. When we arrived at this hospital, the intensive care staff were ready and prepared for us."

The hospital’s chief executive, Sarah-Jane Marsh, said she was delighted by the findings of the report.

"The staff of Birmingham Children’s Hospital continually strive to deliver the best possible care to the thousands of children, young people and families that need our support, during very stressful and worrying times," she said.

"This report is testament to their hard work and commitment, but we will never become complacent, and always do everything we can to further improve, and listen to each and every concern raised about our hospital."
