STUDENTS and teachers at Simon De Montfort Middle School were joined by some special guests to celebrate receiving an award for being an eco friendly school.

Evesham's Mayor councillor Mark Goodge and mayoress Emma Goodge visited the school in Four Pools Lane last Wednesday to congratulate the pupils on their success and help to raise the flag.

The award has been presented to the school after months of hard work by pupils and staff.

Jon Ranstead, teacher and eco-coordinator at the school said he was delighted to receive the flag.

"I am very pleased and honoured to be standing here for this extra special achievement," he said. "The dedication of the staff, pupils, parents and governors is the main reason we have gained this award."

Coun Goodge added: "Congratulations on achieving the award. I am pleased to see that you are putting effort into learning about how we can better care for the environment and the world we live in."
