Bird's eye view of new development

Evesham Journal: New development at Yate's Court in Evesham New development at Yate's Court in Evesham

THIS bird's eye view shows Evesham town centre and a new building taking shape that will provide more homes for older people in the town.

The photo of the new scheme at Yates Court is up a crane some 22 metres high, which can be seen from miles around.

It is being used to construct 50 new apartments in Evesham town centre.

The homes will form part of an extended and remodelled older people’s scheme at Yates Court, which is located just behind the town’s high street.

Paul Rice, senior building manager at contractors, Willmot Dixon said: "Access to the site is quite a squeeze as it is surrounded by the existing Yates Court facility, other residential properties and several retail units.

"The luffing jib crane that we are using provides the best combination of reach and lifting capacity and is particularly effective when constructing very tall buildings and ones where there is restricted access."

When complete, the extension will provide an additional 48 one and two bedroom apartments of ExtraCare accommodation for people over 60 years old.

Tim Wade, had of development at Rooftop Housing Group added: "I can see the crane from my office window, which is quite a novelty, and I’m looking forward to seeing the new development take shape."

The tower crane is likely to be in operation until the end of September and the overall project is currently scheduled for completion in December.
