A burglar has written a letter of apology to an elderly woman who was one of his intended victims in two Worcestershire home raids.

Brett Stone has written to the woman he disturbed as he tried to break into her home in Owlett’s End, Evesham, at about 5pm on Tuesday, November 12.

The 38-year-old was caught nearby with his girlfriend, 42-year-old Melanie Andrews, both from Farnham Road, Slough.

Stone pleaded guilty to stealing electrical items, money, jewellery and tobacco in a raid on a house in Merstow Place, Evesham, also in November last year and guilty to attempted burglary at Owlett's End.

Andrews has already pleaded guilty to the charges and they will both be sentenced at Worcester Crown Court in the week beginning March 3.

Bill Rickarby, defending, said Stone was anxious that a letter he had written to apologise should be sent to the intended victim of the second raid.

Recorder Chris Bright QC said the protocol was that she will be approached and asked if she wants to receive Stone's latter and if she does, it will be given to her.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Stone was remanded in custody.
