I had a meeting at County Hall yesterday for a totally reason but I was astounded to hear the highways office was almost empty. I was told that many of the staff stayed at home or booked the day off, primarily to avoid having to deal with the flooding issues and complaints that were coming in. If this is true. I am well and truly shocked about their attitude towards situations like this, where people's lives are being affected, and the blatant dereliction of duty they're displaying. It'd be worthwhile for the WN to do some investigating in to this because when you have a severe event like this, as many staff as possible should be available to help out. That's what the EA and emergency services are doing, they're not shying away.

As for the EA, I think they have been doing a superb job during tough conditions and funding cuts, not to mention having to put up with misguided comments from that idiot Pickles.
This wouldn't surprise me one jot of I'm honest. Their communication has been poor, while attempts to get hold of highways staff for anything over the years has been a struggle. They all seem very keen to shy away, particularly when times are tough.
Yup, doesn't surprise me either. Frankly shocking."
