YOUNG engineers from Evesham High School have created robots that have battled their way into the National VEX Championships.

Following regional qualifying competitions three teams from the school are preparing to take part in the finals at the Big Bang Fair at the NEC Birmingham in March.

The club only set up last year with one robot kit but through generous support from ASSAC, Allen Gears and Evesham Rotary Club, the club has been able to purchase two more kits.

Chris Thomas, a sixth former at the school who attends the the club, which runs each lunchtime, said: "It is great to spend our free time working with the younger students. Last year we, the sixth formers, competed at the National Championships in our first year, so it is great that we all have won through to the finals again year. Great fun and a great achievement."

Each year VEX, who sell the kits and run the competitions, set challenges that the students have to overcome in designing, building and programming their robots.
