A REAM of events have been planned for the coming months to raise much needed money for the town's Abbey Bell Tower.

There will be concerts featuring local singers and bands alongside Easter events in order to raise some cash.

But the events need the support of local people in order to be a success.

Sue Ablett, chairman of the fundraising committee, said: "We have a fantastic range of events during the coming year, with something happening every month."

The first event on the calendar takes place on Friday, March 28, as All Saints Church welcomes back Hanna-h and friends after their very successful concert last year.

As Easter approaches former mayor and councillor Diana Raphael will be organising fundraising events alongside a giant easter egg raffle to be drawn on Saturday, April 12.

Later in that month, Friday, April 25, there will be a Celidh, and on Friday, May 30th a concert featuring the Avonbank Brass Band will be held at the Evesham Arts Centre.

Mrs Ablett added: "We specifically need help with a few things including, taking part in the rota for supermarket or street collections, help on appeal stalls, donation of prizes for raffles, donation of bric-a-brac, or cash in the attic items, help with catering and selling tickets and we need lots of handbags for an Easter Monday sale."

In total the Bell Tower appeal needs to raise £500,000 to repair and conserve the tower, built in 1531 by Abbot Clement Lichfield.

Since it began in June last year it has been backed by the Journal and readers have raised about £10,000 of the £80,000 secured.
