THE annual pancake race organised by Malvern Rotary Club was once again a success, with teams flocking to Priory Park with skillet and batter to take part.

And after seemingly endless days of rain and wind, Rotarians were watching the skies anxiously on Tuesday morning, and were delighted that the bad weather held off, allowing the event, now in its seventh year, to go ahead.

Sandy Gibson of the club said: "Despite all our fears, Tuesday morning stayed dry and everyone had a great time. We don't keep records, but I think the turn-out this year is as good as it's ever been."

Over thirty three- and four-year- olds took part in the toddlers' race, organised by the ladies of Malvern Inner Wheel. And with no fewer than 18 teams taking part, the adults’ races were also well supported.

Winning the Elite (average age under 50) category was the Flipping Council team from Malvern Hills District Council, with a team of parents from Hanley Swan Preschool coming second.

And the Veterans trophy was retained by Save the Children, with Inner Wheel Spice Girls runners up.

Facing strong competition, the Faux Flower Design team, who came all the way from Stroud to take part, won the best dressed team trophy. There is also a prize for the team which raises the most sponsorship money, but It will take a couple of weeks to get the figures in.

The club also wants to thank event sponsors Waitrose and Billy Smart’s Circus.
