AN historic Vale pub will mark the 10 year anniversary today (Thurs, Feb 27)of a fire that nearly destroyed it.
Ten years ago today a fire took hold of the Fleece Inn at Bretforton ripping through the pub’s thatched roof and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
But for the dedication and bravery of the six fire crews that put out the fire 10 years ago, the pub, which dates from the 14th century when it was a farmer's longhouse, may not be with us.
It was restored by its owners the National Trust and specialist renovation company Croft Building & Conservation and re-opened for business, faithfully restored, in 2005.
To mark the anniversary and thank those who helped save and rescue the Inn, landlord Nigel Smith is having a celebratory drink and sandwiches in the bar from 11.30am today.
