ONE of Worcester's leading independent schools has launched its own theatre company.

The drama department at the King's School recently set up the King's Theatre Company, comprising actors from year nine upwards, and its inaugural production of Angels by Pauline McLynn will be staged today and tomorrow (Thursday and Friday, February 27-28) in their John Moore Theatre at 7.30pm.

It will also be performed at the prestigious Bristol Old Vic on Tuesday, March 18 as part of the National Theatre's Connections celebration of new plays for young people.

Each year new plays are commissioned for and about young people from some of the best contemporary playwrights, for performance by schools and youth theatres all over the UK and Ireland, making Connections one of the world’s largest celebrations of youth theatre.

The King’s Theatre Company production will be directed by Jules Price-Hutchinson and assisted by Sophie Haddock.

In a neglected graveyard, and watched by three quirky stone angels, a group of teenagers come together to clear away the rubbish and overgrowth of many years.

During the process they gradually reveal truths about themselves that they have been unwilling to face and ultimately find acceptance through the unlikely bond that they form.

Playwright and actress Pauline McLynn is perhaps best known for her role as Mrs Doyle the housekeeper in the hit comedy series Father Ted.
