HUNDREDS of cyclists will descend on the Vale this summer as a local group hosts its first ever CycleFest.

The Honeybourne Bicycle Users Group has announced the festival for cyclists will be held with the village as a focal point on Saturday, June 22.

Organiser and founder of the group, which is known as H-BUG, Steve Bullen said he hopes the event will further cement the village as a cycling hub.

"The event will take place the day after the longest day of the year, so it's a great day for cycling," said Mr Bullen, who was inspired to set up H-BUG by the Olympic cycling success.

"We will do all the routes we offer in H-BUG at least once and encourage other cyclists to come and bike through the village. The idea is Honeybourne will be a cycle hub.

"I am also hoping to get cycle groups to pass through as well, we want Honeybourne to be a cycle destination. Hopefully we will see 400 to 500 cyclists here."

The group is also looking forward to appearing on the big screen as Transition Evesham launches its Greening the Vale film on Monday (March 10).

The first official screening of the film, featuring cyclist from H-BUG, will take place at the Regal in Evesham's Port Street.

Mr Bullen added: "We had the filming session a while back, which was fun, and I know things get cut back but it will be nice to see how it goes into the Transition Evesham film.

"Definitely looking forward to that."

And it doesn't end there for Mr Bullen, who is also taking part in the 2014 Prudential RideLondon 100-

mile, timed cycle ride in August.

The ride follows the route of the Olympic Road Race and Mr Bullen has decided to run in support of the Alzheimer's Society.

"I was pleasantly surprised to get a place because I have applied unsuccessfully before," added Mr Bullen. "I am delighted to be involved, there is a lot of training involved for the 100 miles. But I am hoping to raise about £1,000 for the Alzheimer's Society as my wife suffers with dementia."
