YOUNGSTERS at a Vale school were inspired by green fingered TV celebrity Christine Walkden when she visited them and helped with their planting.

The renowned horticulturalist and resident gardener on BBC's the One Show visited Fladbury CE First School on Wednesday, March 5, and spent the afternoon potting and planting.

She has herself been a horticulturist since the age of ten when she first obtained an allotment and started growing vegetables and flowers, which she sold to her school teachers and local residents.

The pupils at the school are now planning to take a leaf out of Christine's book and sell their plans at the annual Fladbury Walkabout in July.

Julie Wilson, headteacher, said: "Christine was a real inspiration to the children. She worked alongside them helping with the planting and each child managed to plant something which they can now watch as it grows.

"I think the children learned a tremendous amount which will stay with them all their lives. We are hoping our plant sale at the annual Fladbury Walkabout in July will be a great success as a result of Christine’s inspirational visit."
