FAMOUS faces from the Vale appeared on the big screen this week at the launch of a film created in the district about its green initiatives.

It was launched on yesterday (Monday, March 10) at the Regal Cinema alongside Wychavon District Council's first Intelligently Green Awards.

The film, Greening in the Vale, was initiated by Transition Evesham Vale and was made by Wychavon residents Alan Miller and Mike Coe.

It focuses on how communities can work together for a sustainable future and includes an introduction by Alastair McGowan.

The famous impressionist said: "The Vale of Evesham is a great place to live and we want to keep it that way. This short film aims to empower the local community to create a better and more sustainable future and I’m very pleased to be involved with it."

The awards were launched after the film and will recognise, celebrate and promote green projects and activities in Wychavon.

There are four categories of awards, energy, construction, transport and food, tourism and green space.

There will also be one overall winner and the deadline for nominations is May 30 with information available at a bespoke website. Nominations for the awards are encouraged from individuals, businesses, schools and community groups for activities and projects in the Wychavon district that took place between April 1 in 2011 and March 31 this year.

Councillor Emma Stokes, represented Wychavon District Council at the event. She said: "The awards are part of our Intelligently Green Plan which is helping us, and the community, to be intelligently green.

"This means doing things that not only have a positive impact on the environment, but also have community or financial benefits."

The awards are sponsored by Rooftop Housing Group, Red Deer Herbs, The Evesham Greengrocer and Transition Evesham Vale.
