A DAY at the Cheltenham Festival was recreated at a Broadway care home as residents and their relatives donned their best clothes for a special party.

The Bupa Brompton House care home, in Station Road, celebrated the first day of the festival last Tuesday with a VIP tea and race party.

No money was exchanged but residents battled it out for prizes after each race which they watched as they dined on strawberry scones, smoked salmon sandwiches and quaffed glasses of bubbly.

The gentlemen spruced themselves up with jackets and ties while the ladies wore hats and dressed in their best frocks.

Sally Pape, activities co-odinator, said the day went really well.

"It was just good fun," she said. "We had about 20 residents and relatives they were great. One turned out in a full outfit, they really went for the part.

"It was good atmosphere, everyone said afterwards they had really enjoyed it."
