HUNDREDS of pounds worth of books were delivered to a village school and pupils celebrated the arrival with a belated World Book Day.

The youngsters at Defford-cus-Besford CE First School, in Defford, near Pershore, marked the national book day on Friday (March 21) by dressing up as their favourite literary characters.

Andrea Bailey, headteacher, said she was very pleased with the day.

"We had our celebration of World Book Day to coincide with a very successful fund raising sponsored book read with Osbourne Books where the children raising more than £600 worth of books, which is phenomenal for 44 children.

"The day was great, most of the children and staff dressed up and parents came in to see them parade in their outfits. It was a day all about books."
