A LORRY driver from Pershore has taken to the roads but for once he is not behind the wheel.

Tony Clarke, who works as a long distance driver, is in training for the Brighton Marathon.

The 47-year-old is taking on the 26-mile challenge on Sunday, April 6, in support of Breast Cancer Care.

He was inspired to do something for the charity after his friend was diagnosed with cancer.

"A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and I had been doing some training so I thought I would raise money for Breast Cancer Care," said Mr Clarke.

"I am looking forward to it. I am a bit nervous as it's the first marathon I have ever run."

Mr Clarke has been given support from his former employees, Dudley's Coaches Ltd, which have put his photo on the side of one of their coaches and will be running a trip to Brighton on the day of the marathon.

"Dudley's have been advertising the run on the coach and on their website. They will be raising money from the fees paid by people to travel on the coach to Brighton on the day of the run."
