CHILDREN and staff from a school's cookery club are celebrating being served with a successful grant application.

Welland Primary School has been given cookery equipment to the value of £250 by the Food Education Trust, causing a stir among the pupils.

The trust promotes the benefits of a balanced, home cooked diet and is funded by the proceeds from the sales of two cookery books by its founder Romilla Arber - What's for Dinner? and What's for Dinner? Second Helpings.

Headteacher Rachel Huff said: "We have been extremely impressed by the number of boys and girls who are keen to join our cookery club.

"This generous grant means we can improve the club provision for our children and continue to keep their interest whilst teaching them healthy cooking skills for life.

"The staff and children are thrilled with the equipment and are already putting it to good use."

Romilla Arber said: “The Food Education Trust seeks to encourage children and adults to eliminate the need for pre-packaged and convenience food by equipping them with basic cookery skills, so they are able to prepare delicious, healthy meals from scratch.

"The Food Education Trust was delighted to assist Welland Primary School by providing £250 worth of cookery equipment, in order for them to develop their cookery club.”
