MISSING buttons were replaced and creative skills passed on at a textile repair and swishing event.

Visitors to the Pump House Environment Centre in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester, learnt how to repair their clothes and took the opportunity to swap some of their unwanted clothing for some new items from 11am to 2pm on Saturday.

The event, organised by the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust and Transition Worcester, aims to promote reducing, re-using and recycling and there are plans for it to take on elements of a social club so people can share useful skills and tips.

Machinists, hand-sewers and crocheters were all on hand to made do and mend.

Tony Kennell, chairman of Transition Worcester, said it was only their second event but was looking forward to seeing it develop.

"We will be doing one every month. There's the beginnings of a club with sewing, crocheting and people with like minded interests coming together.

"This is just the start and things will happen. We are always looking transferable skills."

Roisin Hanks, project manager of the Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, said: "It is growing - we have certainly had more people today. Hopefully word will get out and more people will come along to the next event."
