THOUSANDS of pounds were raised across the Vale and the Cotswolds as people got active for this year's record-breaking Sport Relief effort.

Throughout last week, children from Bretforton, Badsey, The Littletons and Offenham First schools held fun runs and sporting activities competing either individually or in their house teams.

Tina Kay , PE teacher and advisor for the cluster first schools, said: “We all had a fantastic time keeping fit whilst raising money for a fabulous cause."

Pershore High School raised several hundred pounds with a non-uniform day that climaxed a week of sporting activity.

Former Warriors and South Africa rugby player, Thinus Delport, also visited the school on Friday as Sky Sports Ambassador.

Throckmorton-based Xtreme Boot Camps raised more than £650 after members took part in a gruelling 24-hour outdoor treadmill challenge at the Waterside, in Stratford.

The challenge started at 12pm on Thursday with the current Miss England, Kirsty Heslewood, who ran the first 30 minutes.

Meanwhile in the Cotswolds, children at Longborough and Swell Primary raised £150 when they followed the lead of footballersRobbie Savage and Alan Shearer with their own ‘Battle of the seats’.

They smashed their target of sitting on 45,000 seats – the equivalent of the number of seats in Wembley stadium - and managed to sit on more than 100,000.

Youngsters at Winchcombe Farm Day Nursery, in Upper Tysoe, near Shipston, raised more than £250 when they jumped p around in woolley jumpers at a sponsored Yogabugs ‘bounce’ class.
