A MAN who was killed in a head-on crash on Monday evening has been named as Martin John Northcott of Old Orchard, Upton Upon Severn.

Mr Northcott, aged 34, died following the crash on Welland Road, Upton, at about 7.40pm. The the green MG sports car he was driving was in collision with a blue Volkswagen Golf.

Both vehicles were badly damaged and the 21-year-old driver of the Volkswagen suffered minor injuries.

PC Ben Wharton of West Mercia Police said: “Residents and other road users were very quickly on the scene, but sadly it was clear that nothing could be done for the driver of the MG.

“The road was closed until the early hours of the morning to enable investigations into the circumstances to commence, and the scene to be cleared.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the dead man. A specially trained family liaison officer has been appointed, and will be keeping them updated on the progress of the inquiry.”

The Worcestershire coroner opened an inquest into Mr Northcott's death on Wednesday.
