Councillors reluctantly approved 11 homes

COUNCILLORS asked when is enough enough at a recent meeting when an application for 11 new homes in Badsey came before them.

The plan for 11 dwellings on land next to Bretforton Road in Badsey was narrowly approved by two votes at Wychavon District Council's planning committee with a handful of members strongly against the plans.

Councillor Reg Jakeman said he didn't know where to start on reasons against the application by Lighthouse 400 Developments.

"Firstly I would question the flood water danger and it's outside the development plan," he said. "How much longer are we going to let developers go into the open countryside? It's time to say no this area of Badsey has enough.

"The Birmingham and Bretforton Roads are extremely busy roads. This road cannot take any more traffic. It's too far to walk to the facilities in the village therefore it's unsustainable. The brook overflows, the school is full, it's not included in the local plan and it's outside the development plan."

Cllr Keith Wright also raised serious concerns about the safety of the roads in the area.

But Cllr Judy Pearce said as a council they didn't have much choice.

"In an ideal world I would go along with what Cllr Jakeman and Cllr Wright have said but we are over a barrel with the five year land supply."she said.

Her view was supported by Cllr Ken Jennings, who added: "I fear the argument has already been lost on this site. The South Worcestershire Development Plan is going to need a lot more land. This will just encourage more applications. The only justification I can give Badsey Parish Council is that it will be soon justified in being able to change its name to Badsey Town Council."

Chairman Cllr Linda Robinson said: "We had set a precedent in this area for us to now stay you need to stop this."

Despite this Cllr Val Wood still despaired asking: "When is enough enough?"
