A NEW bench will give visitors to a nature reserve somewhere to sit and contemplate the scenery.

The solid oak bench was donated to the Friends of Diglis Fields by the Rotary Club of Worcester South and the community group was joined by Worcester City Council's ranger team to install the latest addition in the Cherry Orchard Nature Reserve.

Volunteers also helped to remove a number of bags of rubbish from the reserve and dig the footing holes for the bench.

Francis Lankester, chairman of the Friends of Diglis Fields, said: “We are extremely grateful to Worcester South Rotary for donating the bench. Everyone worked hard to dig the holes for the bench legs and to get it fixed straight.

"This is the second bench the friends have installed on the field and we hope people enjoy using it as much as the first one. The litter pickers also did a great job in keeping the riverside clean and tidy. We always welcome more people to join in.”

President of the Rotary Club of Worcester South, Godfrey Benson, said: “We are always delighted to help our local community, especially the Friends of Diglis Fields who obviously care so much about their local environment.”

Friends of Diglis Fields was formed in September 2012 to help protect and improve Diglis Recreation Ground and the Cherry Orchard Local Nature Reserve.

The group is holding a herb walk on Monday, April 28, meeting at the St Mark's Close entrance to the nature reserve at 10.30am.
