THE latest mayor's coffee morning in Pershore will help blind and partially sighted people find out what is going on in the town.

The event, held on Saturday (April 5), raised £270 for the Pershore Talking Newspaper, which provides recordings of local news and magazine features to the blind and partially sighted.

The money is to be put towards the purchase of new Boombox players and also a donation given to Pathfinders, a social group for local blind and partially sited residents.

The paper, which changed to digital recording in 2010 with listeners receiving it on a USB memory stick, gives away the Boombox players for free to all listeners to play the recordings.

Chris Smith, chairman of the town's Talking Newspaper, said: "The original players we bought are becoming old and a new model has been introduced, so we have decided on a rolling programme of replacement.

"This money will go towards the cost of this. Many thanks to mayor Charles Tucker for putting on this event, and to Liz Tucker who did sterling work in the kitchen.

"Huge thanks also of course to all the Talking Newspaper volunteers who organised it, staffed the kitchen and brought produce and gifts to sell and raffle."

Pershore Mayor, Charles Tucker, said: "I was very pleased to be able to support these two local charities that provide important services to the blind and partially sighted residents of Pershore.

"I know they are both highly regarded by these residents."
