THEY act as the eyes for blind and partially sighted people around the country but now guide dogs need the help of people in the Vale.

The charity Guide Dogs has seven people who own the specially trained dogs and others waiting to join them but there is no local fundraising group supporting the vital work that goes on behind the scenes.

The local Guide Dogs Mobility Team is now hoping to introduce a fundraising group in the Evesham area.

Volunteers can be involved in all sorts of ways and don't have to have a link to guide dogs or even be a dog owner to be involved.

Sue Bushell, the areas community engagement officer, said: "What fascinates me about guide dogs is that connection between a person and animal and the huge difference that animal can make to a person’s life.

"As a volunteer you will have the opportunity to develop an understanding of the difficulties faced by people who are blind or partially sighted. I cannot begin to imagine how hard it would be to lose your sense of sight, but I know it would be easier to have a dog beside you every day."

Anyone that would like to find out more about the service can attend an information session at the Town Hall, Market Place, Evesham, on Wednesday, April 23, between 10.30am and 1.30pm.
