Heard the one about the Grand National winning horse who walked into a bar?

Claines-trained horse Pineau De Re may not have been able to enter The Mug House but was there to meet staff who had worked hard while friends and family celebrated after his big win.

Trainer Dr Richard Newland and almost 400 well wishers raised a glass to the 11-year-old horse at the small pub next to Claines Church on Saturday, April 5.

But it was a much quieter affair when Pineau De Re visited on Friday morning before the pub opened.

Landlady Judy Allen said it was lovely to meet the horse.

"Richard brought the horse down because he was going to bring it for the press on Sunday but because he was so busy he ran out of time.

"He said he was happy for the groom to bring Pineau De Re down.

"There was quite a few people here but to be honest we didn't want too many people here in case the horse got spooked."

Artist Christopher Hughes has completed a painting of the horse stood outside the pub which is currently being printed.

They will eventually be for sale online at www.christopherhughesartist.co.uk and at the Mug House.

Mr Hughes is also painting a one off picture of Pineau De Re outside the Mug House on porcelain.
