Shopping centre revamp on the cards for Worcester's Cathedral Plaza

First published in News

A SHOPPING centre in Worcester could get a revamp with a new-look square as plans go on display to the public.

The public will have the chance to view the proposals for the Cathedral Plaza at an exhibition at unit 20 of the centre on Thursday, May 1 between 2pm and 7pm.

Salmon Harvester Opportunity Fund, the owner of Cathedral Plaza, will be presenting its plans for the 'remodelling' of the centre before submitting an application later in the spring.

The exhibition, which will be staffed by members of the team on the first day, will provide residents and businesses in the city centre, as well as visitors, the opportunity to understand the proposals and provide comments. Feedback will be considered by the team prior to the final scheme being agreed for submission to Worcester City Council.

Nick Webb of Salmon Harvester Opportunity Fund said: “We’re excited about our proposals for Cathedral Plaza and the possibility of creating a new public square for Worcester, and we hope the city is too."

This shopping centre needs to be demolished. It is a hideous looking complex that does nothing to either enhance or compliment the other buildings in that part of the city centre. It should make way for a public open space with a square, a focal point which Worcester sorely lacks, while it would open up the High Street and compliment the cathedral.

Only showing the plans for 5 hours? Hardly a committed attempt to get an accurate measure of public feedback!

Problem.
There is no second day.

Are they not going to get rid of the roundabout and have it all as open space for the public to walk around.

Oh yes, let's do that. Divert even more traffic down the City Walls Road and through town to create more jams on top of the jams we already have. Hilarious! Hope the planners don't read this, it's just the sort of thing they jump at...

This is what was in the papers not so long ago, a picture of it being all pedestrianised and no roundabout,

Just because it's in the paper doesn't mean it will happen. Just think about how many 'schemes' have been in the WN over the last couple of years. How many have gone through? It's pie in the sky proposals by large corporations and their tame architects to encourage the council to go along with it. Beware 'artists impressions' !

"Your (sic) wrong" ? What part of what I said is wrong? I know it was in the paper, that's not in doubt. Your assertion that it was going ahead because '...it was in the papers..." is what amused me.
.
And in support of this, I would refer you to 'Let’s turn this ugly traffic island into a pretty city square' from 26 Feb 2007, 'Gloom as plans for city makeover are scaled down', 2 Feb 2008, and 'What city's new ‘food quarter’ will look like' from 25 April 2008. As I said, beware artists impressions.
