A PUBLIC meeting is being held by church groups in Evesham to urge people to vote in the European Elections.

Taking place in Evesham Methodist Church, Bridge Street, on Wednesday, April 30, the meeting will cover six major topics which the elections will have an effect including immigration, overseas aid, health issues and climate change.

All the major parties have been invited and will be able to contribute as part of the audience.

Six speakers including John Copper, of Christian Aid, and Robin Walker, of Transition Evesham Vale, will present their topic in seven minutes with the opportunity for the audience to comment.

Organised by EDJEN (Evesham and District Justice and Equality Network), the meeting runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and will be chaired by Reverend Andrew Spurr, Vicar of Evesham.

Reverend David Haslam, EDJEN Convenor, said: "It is really worrying that there seems so little interest in who will represent us at European level.

"Whether we support the European Union or not, for now it is highly influential in many parts of our lives, and we want to urge people to take an interest, and vote, in the upcoming elections."

The European Elections are taking place on Thursday, May 22.
