A POLICE dog tracked down a wanted man who was in a compost heap in Evesham at lunchtime today.

A man, aged 35, was arrested by police after being found in a compost heap under a pile of leaves at the allotments in the Abbey Gardens at 12.50pm today.

A search had been going on for the man, who was wanted by the police in connection with a domestic violence incident and a breach of a community order, in the town since 12.15pm when he was spotted by an officer.

Police officers, cars, the police helicopter and police dogs were used in the search, which lasted a little over half an hour and centred around Evesham High Street.

The man is currently in police custody.

A police spokesman said: "An officer spotted a man in Evesham who was wanted in relation to a domestic violence assault.

"An immediate search in the of the High Street and around some allotments behind the church took place.

"A dogs unit and helicopter were also used. There was an arrest after he was detained by a police dog.

"The suspect was in a compost heap covered in leaves at the allotments in the Abbey Gardens."
